How a Turkish wedding unfolds – the four stages

A Turkish wedding is rarely a single day. It usually spans several celebrations – and two of them need a hall.

Söz & Nişan – promise and engagement

The families meet, the promise (söz) is made and the engagement (nişan) is celebrated with a ring ceremony. Small engagements happen at home, larger ones already in a hall – most venues in this directory host engagement parties.

Kına Gecesi – the henna night

On the eve of the wedding, mainly the bride's family celebrates the henna night: traditional songs, the red veil, henna for the bride. A smaller hall is often enough – which also makes weekday dates work well.

Düğün – the big wedding night

The main event with often 300 to over 1,000 guests: the couple's entrance, dinner, live music and halay dancing, the cake ceremony – and the takı ceremony, where guests pin gold and money onto the couple. This is what the large halls on this page are for.

Nikâh – the ceremony

The civil ceremony takes place separately; many couples add a religious ceremony (dini nikâh). Some venues offer to host the civil ceremony on site – noted in the venue's facilities where documented.

The timeline – what to book when

Large halls and good musicians are the bottlenecks – secure them first. As a rule of thumb:

Choosing the hall – the checklist

These eight questions matter more than the first impression. Ask them at every viewing:

  • Real capacityDo the guests fit seated at tables – not just standing? Turkish weddings often draw more guests than confirmed: plan a buffer.
  • Stage & dance floorIs there a stage for the band and a dance floor big enough for halay with many dancers?
  • CateringDoes the venue cook in-house, or may you bring your own caterer? Are alcohol-free celebrations and halal food possible on request? Ask directly – websites rarely say.
  • Pricing modelHall rental plus separate catering – or a package price per guest? What is included (decoration, tech, staff, cake)? Get everything in writing.
  • End time & musicUntil when may you celebrate, are there noise limits? A düğün rarely ends before midnight.
  • Parking500 guests easily means 150 cars. Is on-site parking enough, are there overflow options?
  • Deposit & contractHow much is the deposit, what happens if you postpone or cancel? Read the cancellation terms before signing.

What does a Turkish wedding in a hall cost?

There are two pricing models: hall rental only plus your own catering – or a package price per guest including food, drinks and tech. With large guest counts it pays to calculate both ways: beyond a certain size, separate rental with your own caterer is often cheaper per head.

One tradition softens the cost: at the takı ceremony, guests support the couple with gold and gifts of money. Many couples therefore plan more generously than a pure cost calculation would suggest – though takı should never be counted on as fixed income.

Saving tip: the weekday is the biggest price lever. The same celebration on a Friday or Sunday often costs noticeably less than on a Saturday – ask specifically for off-peak dates.
